Emojipack: Keyboard-Optimized Emoji Snippets for Alfred
— 2024-01-01
After using Joel Califa’s excellent Emoji Pack for Alfred for several years, I decided to create my own curated version with a focus on efficiency and intuitive search.
Why Another Emoji Pack?
Joel’s pack is comprehensive and well-thought-out. However, over time I noticed a few areas where I wanted something different:
-
Streamlined Keywords: While Joel’s pack includes every possible keyword variation, I found this sometimes made it harder to find the exact emoji I wanted. My pack focuses on the most intuitive keywords.
-
Consistent Naming: I’ve implemented a strict naming convention that makes emoji discovery more predictable.
-
Regular Maintenance: The pack is actively maintained to include new emoji releases and improvements based on real usage.
Key Features
The pack focuses on keyboard-driven workflows with:
- Carefully selected keywords prioritizing intuitive discovery
- Consistent naming patterns across all emojis
- Optimized for quick searches
- Regular updates and maintenance
Comparison with Joel’s Pack
I performed a detailed analysis of both packs:
- Joel’s pack has more variations of keywords, offering flexibility but sometimes at the cost of precision
- My pack focuses on fewer, more targeted keywords per emoji
- Both packs maintain excellent emoji coverage
Some examples of the differences in keyword approach:
| Emoji | Joel’s Keywords | My Keywords |
|---|---|---|
| 😊 |,, :pleased: |
 |
| 🏃 | :run:, :runner:, :running: |
:run: |
| 🎉 | :tada:,, :celebration: |
:tada: |
